The room ventilator which can be mounted in a wall underneath also includes a sound deadening system. The housing has a projecting part(37) with an opening (39) below for air entry. Inside is the air discharge opening (4) at about the same level. Between them is a vertical intermediate partition (7) which can be raised and lowered to control the air passing through a gap (3) through the rear (24) of the housing. This partition forms part of a structure (9, 10) with flanges (14) projecting at the front, carrying layers (11, 12, 19) of sound insulating material. A knob (18) at the front is rotated to raise or lower the structure. A bent arm (15) at the rear of the knob fits between the flanges so as to cause this raising or lowering action. The design may be modified to slide sideways or rotate the control partition (7).
