Mixing chamber for vehicle multicylinder IC engine - has rotary valve sealed to cylinder head by gas pressure from cylinders

The cylinders(2, 3) of a multicylinder engine have connections(27, 31) to a mixing chamber(33) into which fuel is injected. The connections are controlled by a rotary valve(15) to put pairs of cylinders into communication in the required sequence. The valve(15) is turned by pins(18) from a holder(17) operated by a coupling(21) from the cam-shaft. A spring(24) presses the valve against the cylinder head. A connection(45) from the inlet port(36) allows gas from the cylinder(2) completing the compression stroke to enter the gap between the valve and the holder. This gas pressure provides the sealing force between the valve and the cylinder head.
