The mechanism feeds paper sheets to a typewriter or similar office machine, having a hopper holding a sheet stack. A cassette inserted preferably vertical, in the mechanism has a separator engaging with the stack. A feed shaft leads from the hopper to the typewriter platen, the sheets being fed to a vertical support in front of the hopper. The rear wall (44) of the support has a guide plate (46), forming with the rear wall an additional feed shaft leading to the platen (14). The design affords a simple means of inserting a special sheet different from those in the stack whenever desired.
