For the purpose of electroplating the internal surfaces of tubes, the tubes (11) are gripped and sealed by closure heads (23) at their ends. The closure heads have inlets and outlets (27, 28) which are used to transfer the bath fluid. The inlets and outlets (27, 28) are connected to a reservoir (47) for the bath fluid. A circulation pump (46) is connected within one of the two lines. As a result of treating solely the internal wall of the tubes, the external wall need not be covered, and as a result of the bath fluid being circulated, hydrogen gas bubbles, which otherwise prevented deposition of the metal, cannot adhere to the internal wall. <IMAGE>
