The traffic light has a housing with at least one vertical surface with several zones which can be lit up in different colours. The first two signalling zones(2, 3) are those adjacent to each other on the vertical surface, and are sepd. by a line. A third zone (5) lies on both sides of the line (4) inside the first two zones (2, 3). The third zone(5) colour is neutral or different from the colours of the first two zones(2, 3). It displays (6) the time remaining to the next colour change. The surface with the signalling zones may be slightly tilted forward, to aid reading by drivers at a level below the traffic light.
