Rotary kiln is equipped with satellite coolers having cooling tubes mounted by two supports on the outer face of the kiln or a continuation support tube coaxial with the kiln. One of the supports permits a relative movement between the cooling tube and the kiln or support tube, to accommodate thermal movements. The hot material discharged from the kiln passes through a transition pipe into the cooling tube. This transition pipe is rigidly attached both at the discharge flange from the kiln and that the connecting flange to the cooling tube. The transition pipe is of sufficient elasticity to accommodate the thermal movements existing between the cooling tube and the kiln without any additional compensation equip.
