The hip spreader apparatus is for the treatment of hip joint dysplasia, and has a plate bearing against the back and two adjustable thigh grips. At the lower end of the plate (10) are two rails (11) extending away from the lengthwise axis of the body (L), the angle between them and this axis being determined by the necessary spread angle.
