<p>A groove (2) in the form of a screw spiral is machined into the smooth outer surface of a roller (1). The grooves are relatively deep and are of 'V' section with an included angle (2f). The bottom of the groove is radiused. A profiled wire (3) which also has a V section with the same included angle is fitted in the groove. The wire is so dimensioned, that part of the wire will protrude from the groove. The angle of the 'V' section is chosen so that the wire will wedge in the groove and is self locking. The rollers are used in pairs for squeezing water from a material web.</p>
