<p>The package consists of a closed chain of eight connected cardboard boxes each having the same parallelepiped shape and size. The boxes are formed from prefolded flat cardboard shapes opened out and held together in rigid form by means of insert flaps and glued flaps. Each boxs has its own fold open lid with insert flap to hold it in the closed position. Adjoining pairs of boxes are hinged together along one edge whilst the outer end boxes of adjoining groups are hinged together along edges perpendicular to the direction of the first edges. At least two of the three outer faces (A1, A2, A3) have a rectangular shape differing from that of a square. The chain of boxes can be folded flat with the lids at top and bottom open so that the boxes can be fed into a conventional packaging machine, opened and filled one after another or all together. At the hinge edges, there is preferably a strip between adjoining folded sides of width corresponding to three to five times the thickness of the cardboard from which the chain is fabricated, ensuring that the link edge remains strong after repeated folding open and closed of the chain. The box chain offers the increased sales attraction of varied shape and dimensions whilst maintaining the packaging advantages and use flexibility and strength of the cube chains.</p> |
