摘要 <p>An assembly or organization of longitudinally movable parts having operable connecting means therefor. This assembly comprises two layers (or multiples thereof) of strips of what are herein termed friction material which comprises in one arrangement, a plurality of short closely arranged straight bristles of nylon or other suitable material carried by a backing therefor of fabric, plastic or other suitable material so that the strips are similar to a rug having a backing with a coat or surface of short, close hairs, fibers, filaments or bristles. This coating is similar to the bristle arrangement of a brush or similar to the pile or nap of a rug or carpet, and is referred to herein as a plie or nap. The bristle covered surface of these strips face each other and are spaced apart in substantially longitudinally aligned parallel relationship with at least one of said strips movable linearly or longitudinally relative to the other. In other words, said stripe are movable longitudinally relative to each other. In the space between these strips is a continuous flexible band or belt of friction material which has the bristles facing outwardly. The loop ends of the band pass around or over rollers for holding or guiding the band in position with the bristles of oppositely arranged or disposed intermediate parts of the band frictionally interlocking with the bristles of the respective adjacent strips. When the strips are moved longitudinally or linearly relative to each other, the band also moves longitudinally between said strips. With such movement, the looped ends of the band have a rolling movement and the bristles of the rolling parts or portions of the band progressively roll into and out of engagement with the bristles of the strips thus easily engaging and disengaging the bristles of said strips. However, the parts of the band intermediate the ends thereof, frictionally resist linear or longitudinal movement between said strips, and normally prevent slippage between the band and the strips. Only a forceful overriding of the built-in resistance will cause disengagement and when such force is applied, disengagement will occur without destruction or damage to the parts. Other types of friction material may be used, such as foam, plastic, rubber or the like, and sheet metal having friction surfaces.</p>
