1326289 Portable containers; packages ETABS DENTAIRE IVOCLAR 19 April 1971 [27 Feb 1970] 24335/71 Headings B8C and B8D [Also in Division F1] Receptacle main and secondary chambers M and S respectively holding constituents 5 and 6, which are not to be mixed until use, such as resins or dental amalgams, are separated by a resilient dividing wall 33 having one or more transverse weakening grooves 4 along which the wall ruptures on lateral squeezing of the side walls 51 of the receptacle so as to form a selfclosing opening between the chambers. The formed opening recloses on release of lateral pressure on the side walls due to the resilience of the dividing wall, which, together with the receptacle walls, may be of plastics, metal/ plastics laminate, or sheet metal. When of sheet metal, the groove may be replaced by a slit, which is covered by a rupturable metal foil. As shown, the main chamber is formed in a syringe-like tubular bo dy, and the secondary chamber is formed in a hollow piston-like body 32 located in the tubular body and closed by a welded foil cover 37. After rupturing of the dividing wall and mixing of the constituents in the main chamber, the mixture is dispersed through a nozzle 56, 57 by forcing the body 32 downwards using a ram 52 with or without removing the cover 37. Inadvertent displacement of the piston body in the tubular body is prevented by a lip 39 on the former or a rib on the latter. The nozzle end is sealed by a frangible membrane 55, by plugs 48 or 58 or an integral cut-away tip, Figs. 4 and 5a and 5b (not shown). In another embodiment, Fig. 3 (not shown), the tubular body 31 is closed at its open lower end by a removable cover 38. In the embodiment of Fig. 6 (not shown), a sealed catalyst-containing pouch 63 is located between an end cap 64 and an apertured insert 61 and is adapted to be ruptured on depression of the cap so that its contents are dispensed into the main chamber to mix with monomer and polymer constituents 5 and 6. In a further modification, Fig. 2 (not shown) the hollow body 22 is located in the upper end of a cup-shaped body 21 on a rib 29 and is removed to dispense the mixed constituents from the main chamber. In a final embodiment, Fig. 1 (not shown), the dividing wall is integral with the tubular body 1, which is closed at one end by an integral or welded plastics cover 7 and at the other end by a removable cap 8. |
