Novel 5-amino-7-phenyl-2,3-dihydro-1H-1,4-diazepines of the formula I <IMAGE> in which either R1 is alkyl and R2, R3 and R4 are H, alkyl, alkoxy or halogen, or two adjacent substituents form a methylenedioxy group, are prepared by cyclising corresponding compounds of the formula II <IMAGE> The compounds are active against obesity and have an antidiabetic effect.
