Conductive-pigment coated surface is prepd. by (a) alloying non-noble conductive metal, pref. Cu or Ni, with oxidisable material from C, B, Si, C-Si, B-Si, (b) mixing with vitreous frit and organic vehicle to form an ink, (c) screening onto a substrate, (d) firing in an atmos. contg. >=20 vol.% O2 at >500 degrees C. for long enough to oxidise the oxidisable material without oxidising the non-noble metal and (e) cooling. The alloy is pref. fired at 700-900 degrees C. in air. The substrate is pref. ceramic. Thick film conductive elements having characteristics similar to those produced with noble metals are prepd. with inexpensive non-noble metals and fired in air. Adhesion to the substrate is excellent.
|
