The baffle ring (1) directs the fluid on sinusoidal paths (12, 13) thus, dissipating energy and reducing operational noise. The ring has radial ribs (5) and channels (7) in corresponding positions on the respective major faces. The ribs fit in channels when one or more rings are stacked to provide sinusoidal flow paths both in plan and elevation. Basic rings may be cast complete with ribs and channels in a rough form, the final forms being obtained by machining. Angular stagger may be obtained by using ribs occupying the mid third (9) of the radial ring dimensions, and by locating them in circumferential grooveson the opposite face.
