A filament for sewing and stitching is intended esp. for high-speed machines. Inside the filament, continuous or interrupted cavities contain a lubricating and/or cooling agent, which as the filament is repeatedly bent and heated during use, is squeezed out of the cavities to lubricate and cool the external surface. At normal temp. the material of the filament wall is sufficiently dense to retain the lubricating agent, but as the temp. rises with use and working of the filaments, the lubricant is squeezed out.
