1458322 Hydrocyanation process; cobalt complexes E I DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO 3 April 1975 [4 April 1974 18 Sept 1974] 13683/75 Headings C2C and C2P Nitriles are obtained by hydrocyanating C 2-20 unsaturated compounds by reacting them with hydrogen cyanide at -28‹ to 200‹C. in the presence of a catalyst which has the formula or in which Y is a phenyl group optionally substituted by C 1-6 alkyl, C 1-6 alkoxy, C 1-6 alkylcarbonyl, cyano or phenyl, L is a ligand R<SP>1</SP>(CN) n , n being 1 or 2 and R<SP>1</SP> being a C 1-18 hydrocarbon radical, x is from 0 to 2 and each R is a hydrogen atom or a C 1-6 alkyl group, and a non-oxidizing Lewis acid promoter, in the absence of an oxidizing agent for the cobalt compound, the molar ratio of olefin to cobalt complex being from 0À0002 to 0À5 : 1 and the molar ratio of promoter to cobalt complex being from 1 : 16 to 20 : 1. The preparations of cobalt complexes of the formulae (a) [(C 6 H 5 O) 3 P] 4 CoH (b) [(C 6 H 5 O) 3 P] 3 .Co.C 6 H 4 OP(OC 6 H 5 ) 2 (c) [(o-CH 3 .C 6 H 4 O) 3 P] 3 .Co.H.CH 3 CN and (d) [(C 6 H 5 O) 3 P] 3 .Co.H.CH 3 CN are described. |
