<p>1502992 Smelting steel DEMAG AG 27 March 1975 [2 April 1974] 12927/75 Heading C7D Steel is produced continuously in a closed electrical resistance furnace in which electrodes 3a and 3b (e.g. hollow S³derberg electrodes) project into a slag layer 11 above a molten metal bath 12 there being cooling means present in the slag region (e.g. cooling gas ducts in the hearth wall). Iron sponge, pre-reduced iron ore, pellets or briquettes are added via charging pipes 4a, b, c and 5a, b, c and oxygen via pipe 6 to the slag layer which may consist of 15% FeO, 20% SiO 2 , 65% CaO. Alternatively the ore and oxygen may be passed through the hollow electrodes.</p> |
