PURPOSE:To enhance desulfurizing agent utilization efficiency in desulfurization of hot iron by blowing a powdered desulfurizing agent with a carrier gas through a dipped lance pipe outside a furnace, by dipping a fire resistant fence in the hot iron and contact stirring the iron and the agent in the fence. CONSTITUTION:Hot iron 15 is desulfurized by blowing a powdered desulfurizing agent such as calcium carbide into the lower part of iron 15 together with a carrier gas such as N2 gas through fire resistant dipped lance pipe 11. At this time, the lower part of fire resistant fence 13 is dipped in iron 15 to contact stir the unreacted desulfurizing agent and iron 15 in fence 13. The size of fence 13 is so regulated that the surface area of iron 15 in fence 13 is below 3 times, pref. twice as large as that of iron 15 in the range of the rising carrier gas. Fence 13 is dipped in iron 15 to above 10, pref. 20-40 cm depth. The vol. of the gas passed through the hot iron surface in fence 13 is above 1.0, pref. 2.5-4.0 Nm<3>/min to 1 m<2> of the hot iron surface area in fence 3. |
