A lifting device for annular objects such as well rings comprises a U-shaped shackle 1, in one leg of which a pivotable locking arm 4 is arranged, which is capable of swivelling into the shackle to hold the object fast and which is connected to a lifting line 7. The shackle 1 is also provided with a lifting eye. In order to facilitate handling of the lifting device, a lifting strap 10, which can be fastened to the lifting eye of the shackle 1, emerges from the lifting line 7. This lifting strap 10 is just that much shorter than the lifting line 7, so that the section 17 of the lifting line, which extends between the fastening point 16 of the lifting strap 10 on the lifting line 7 and the locking arm 4, is slack when the shackle is suspended in the lifting strap 10. <IMAGE>
