A noise reducer for a powder actuated fastening tool comprises a barrel 11 including inner and outer cylindrical walls 11b and 11c which are radially spaced to define a gas expansion chamber 27 between them. The chamber 27 receives combustion gases through ports or passages 29 in the inner wall 11b, and the gases may be exhausted from the chamber 27 in any appropriate manner, preferably at a location adjacent to the front end of the tool. The outer wall 11c of the barrel 11 can thus be made to fit slidingly within a tool receiver 1, while porting of the expansion chamber 27 can be such as to induce a favourable flow pattern to the combustion gases passing therethrough. <IMAGE> |
