PURPOSE:To produce protein-rich bacterial cells (useful as feeds, food, etc.) from easily available methanol, using specific methanol-assimilable bacteria. CONSTITUTION:Methanol-assimilable bacteria belonging to Microciclus aquaticus, e.g. Microciclus aquaticus DSM334, ATCC27068, ATCC27069, ATCC25396, NCIB9271, etc. are aerobically cultured in a medium containing methanol as main carbon source (an aqueous medium containing <= 6wt% of methanol, and containing a nitrogen source such as ammonium salt, inorganic compound such as calcium salt, etc.) at 20-40 deg.C and pH5-9, and the objective cells are separated from the medium. |
