A protective net is stretched across a road or railway line. Two rows of uprights are arranged parallel to one another with at least two uprights arranged on either side of the covered object. A suspension cable is slung between the two masts and the ends of the cable are fastened by grip-tensioners located in the building-lines of the masts. A sliding device is mounted between the masts in the first row of uprights, and the net beside this row of masts is spread out of the ground, and then drawn up into position, via the sliding device, across the road, rail or crossing point by the tensioning and assembly cables.
