The l.e.d. consists of a light emitting semiconductor and electrodes. The semiconductor (1) is rectangular in shape and the electrodes occupy the two opposing largest faces (c, d) of the semiconductor. One (f) of the next largest faces is the light-emitting surface whilst the other (e) next largest face has a reflecting coating. The smallest side faces (a, b) are also reflecting. The diode's holder consists of a recess in an electrically and/or thermally conducting body forming part of range finding equipment.
