摘要 1356841 Alkylene glycol esters HALCON INTERNATIONAL Inc 26 May 1971 [27 May 1970] 17252/71 Heading C2C In the preparation of alkylene glycol esters by the reaction of an olefinically unsaturated compound (2-30 C) with molecular oxygen in a carboxylic acid in the presence of a catalyst including a cation of a variable valent metal and a halogen source, the water of reaction is separated from the halogen compounds by distillation in the presence of an azeotroping agent. Many alkenes and substituted derivatives and carboxylic acids are listed, together with variable valency metal cations suitable as catalysts. The halogen source preferably contains bromine or chlorine and inert solvents may be present. The product may be initially distilled before the azeotropic distillation to separate the low boiling components which are then azeotropically distilled to separate water and agent from the bottoms stream containing the halogen compounds. Azeotroping compounds with boiling points less than 90‹ C. are listed. Examples describe (1) the reaction of ethylene with oxygen in the presence of acetic acid, tellurium dioxide and hydrogen bromide to form ethylene glycol diacetate, the azeotropic distillation of the bottoms of a first distillation column, and a benzene-water azeotrope is removed leaving ethylene glycol diacetate in the bottoms, (2) the reaction of air and ethylene in the presence of anhydrous acetic acid, manganese diacetate tetrahydrate and anhydrous hydrogen chloride to form ethylene glycol mono- and diacetates and the use of hexane as the azeotropic agent in the distillation of the overhead column to separate the halide.
