<p>The sound recording conditions of a magnetic tape such as bias, recording level, equalization, etc., are automatically set under a computer control in the following sequence instead of conventional manual controls. This setting sequence has the steps of varying (39) and subsequently recording a bias current of the magnetic tape, storing (10) the reproducing levels of the tape corresponding to respective bias current values, selecting the optimum recording bias current from the stored values, then varying (22) and subsequently recording the recording level, and comparing (10) the reproducing level of the tape with the reference value to thereby set the optimum recording level of the tape when the recording level coincides with the reference level as a result of the comparison, and the sequence further has the steps of varying (26) the equalizer amount of the tape to then record the reference signal, and comparing (10) the reproducing level with the reference level to thereby set the optimum equalizer amount of the tape when the reproducing level coincides with the reference level as a result of the comparison. This setting operation of the recording conditions of the magnetic tape is repeated several times to thereby obtain the mean value among the many set values for their accuracy. </p> |
