PURPOSE:To perform flickering of a fluorescent lamp for copying original lighting and achieve the reduction in size and weight of the device by turning ON and OFF a semiconductor switching element. CONSTITUTION:When a secmiconductor switching element 5 is turned ON, the output produced in the secondary winding n2 of a stabilizer element 1 rises the interterminal voltage of the capacity C2 of a starter 7 and the charge of the capacity C2 is discharged at above the breakover voltage of a switching element SSS. A high voltage is induced in the winding n2 by this discharge pulse, by which a fluorescent lamp 2 is lighted. Next, when the element 5 is turned OFF, the secondary voltage of the element 1 has been set at the low voltage of disabling the start of the fluorescent lamp 2 and therefore the fluorescent lamp 2 goes off.
