A cleaning mechanism is for an electrostatic copier, primarily one using a drum for the latent image. A cleaner band (8) comes off a supply reel, over an undriven pressure roller (14) so that it is in contact with the copier's drum (1) to clean off residual pigment, and is fed into a storage chamber (6) when used. The used cleaner band can be replaced. A clean band can be separated from one in use by a dividing wall.
