A batch of a mixture of liquid and solid particles is fed onto a stationary filter belt 2, the mixture either having been previously settled out in a vessel 3 or else being allowed to settle out while it is confined between baffles 15 and 16 on the stationary belt, and the belt is then moved over a suction box 17 where the liquid is sucked off while the particle formation obtained during settling is maintained. The settling vessel 3 may have a valved outlet 7, or else the vessel may be pivotable and have a baffled spout. When the mixture settles out while on the belt a non- pervious base plate is provided beneath the belt between the swing- away baffles 15, 16. The liquid may drain by gravity before the belt passes over suction box 17. <IMAGE> |
