The encapsulated switchgear (1) and bus trunking (5) is filled with insulating gas, for example SF6, under pressure. An explosion diaphragm (8) is provided, typically at the rear of the bus duct, and may be extended by a gas outlet jet (9). If an arcing fault (13) occurs, for example between busbars (6), the overpressure bursts the diaphragm (8) and the internal gas pressure forces the gas out through the opening and at the same time across the arc thus assisting in its extinction.
|
