This invention relates to alkaline silver oxide cells having a negative electrode, an alkaline electrolyte and a positive electrode comprising a major amount of divalent silver oxide and wherein a minor amount of a cadmium compound, such as cadmium oxide, is incorporated into the electrolyte and/or positive electrode to improve the chemical stability of the divalent silver oxide in contact with the alkaline electrolyte. |
