The rotary hay raking machine has a rake which has a controlled displacing member. the member has an operative portion which, in use, is situated near the ground and extends in the direction of displacement of the member relative to the ground. Preferably the member is mounted to rotate about an axis situated in the plane of the rake wheel. The member may be pivotted on the rim of the wheel. The wheel may rotate about a horizontal axis when in use.
