Bulletproof shield comprises an outer layer of a hard material such as steel or glass and an inner layer of an elastic material such as PVC, polycarbonate, nylon or polypropylene. The two layers are bonded together to form an integral whole. When a bullet strikes the composite material, it is deformed by the impact with the outer hard layer to such an extent that the elastic, inner material is able to stop it completely. The composite material is much lighter than traditional armour plate steel and may therefore be used as a body material for private vehicles.
