Antibiotic XK-62-2 (I; n = 1-4) was prepd. by demethylating N-methyl of position 6' and/or 3" in II (R' and R2 = H, Me, but≠H at the same time, n = 1-4) with treatment of oxydizing agent as Cl, Br, I, etc. in inactive solvent for 0.5-50hr at 0-70≦̸C, pH 4.0-12.0. A mixture of I, I'(R1 = CH3, R2 = H), and II'(R1 = H, R2 = CH3) was prepd. by oxydizing II (R1 = R1 = CH3) and by separating II' and II" from the mixture, and then oxydizing.
