1494212 Conversion coatings for iron and steel L PEIER 6 Dec 1974 [12 Dec 1973 9 Jan 1974 10 Jan 1974 (2)] 52837/74 Heading C7U A composition (pH 2À5 to 4À5) for applying to rusty iron and steel comprises an aqueous dispersion of a carboxylic acid in which the aryl ring contains phenolic hydroxyl groups, aromatic sulphonic acids, and formaldehyde precondensates of sulphonic acids, e.g. tannin, dioxy- and trioxybenzoic acids, gallic acid, and a vinyl polymer or copolymer or a synthetic rubber. Formic, lactic or p-toluene sulphonic acids may be added to adjust the pH. The dispersion may also contain an organic solvent, e.g. xylol, butanol, isopropyl alcohol, a plasticizer, a fatty acid, a fatty acid amide, a filler, e.g. magnesium or aluminium silicate and a pigment, e.g. titanium dioxide. |
