<p>Trichloromethyl-benzheterocyclic cpds. of formula (I) are new (where (a) X is O, Y is NR5, R5 is H, 1-4C alkyl or alkanoyl or Ph opt. substd. by >=1 halogen, NO2, 1-4C alkyl, alkoxy or haloalkyl, and Z is CO, or (b) X is NR6, R6 is H, 1-4C alkyl or alkanoyl or Ph opt. substd. as defined for R5, Y is NR5, and Z is CO, or (c) X is NR6, Y is O, Z is CH2 opt. substd. by a COOH or CONH2, 2-5C alkoxycarbonyl or a N-phenylcarbamoyl opt. substd. by halogen, NO2 or 1-4C alkyl, alkoxy or haloalkyl. R1-4 are H, halogen, CN, CHO, OH, hydroxyiminomethyl, NO2 or SO3H or COOH or its alkali(ne earth) metal or NH4 salts, or R7, OR7, OCH2R10, COOR7, OCOR7 OCOR10, CONR8R9, NHSO2R10, NR8R9, NR8COR9, NHCH2R10, SO2NR8R9, or SO2OR7, R7 is 1-4C alkyl, R8 and R9 are H or 1-4C alkyl, and R10 is Ph opt. substd. as defined as for R5, but excluding cpds. in which Z is CO and (1) X is O or NH, Y is NH, and R1-4 are H, (2) X is O, Y is NH, and either R2 and R4 are Cl and R1 and R3 are H or R3 is MeCONH and R1, R2 and R4 are H or (3) X is O, Y is MeCON, R3 is MeCONH, and R1, R2 and R4 are H). (I) reduce the prodn. of methane during rumen metabolism in ruminants and increases the formation of propionate at the expense of acetate, so that the animal growth rate and efficiency of feed utilisation is improved.</p> |
