Double suspension gyroscope for military vehicle e.g. tank navigation - has armature with pivots in universal joint suspension supporting rotor of torque motor

The directional gyroscope for navigation of military vehicle such as tank has double suspension on sensitive axis to allow operation when vehicle is inclined at large angles due to terrain. The gyroscope (2) has an armature (4) with pivots (10, 12) at each end (6, 8) which turn in ball bearings (14, 18) in a universal joint suspension (16). This allows armature to displace around gyroscope output axis (N) which is the sensitive axis. The universal joint suspension supports rotor of torque motor (20) while its sides have pivots (22, 24) which turn in ball bearings (26, 30) to displace around the azimuth axis (A).
