Gases containing hydrocarbons and sulphur compounds escaping during gas and oil wel drilling are rendered harmless by feeding in turn through a water and particulate separator, a desulphurization reactor having a preheater, a second water and particulate separator and a catalytic oxidation reactor. Sudden surges of gas are fed to a burn-off stack vai a cyclone separator. Dangerous explosive and toxic gases are rendered harmless by the appts.
