o,o-Dialkyl-S-benzylthiophosphates (I; R1-R2 = lower alkyl group, Y = halogen, alkoxy, nitro group, n = 0,1,2) useful as agricultural bactericides and insecticides, were prepd, with high purity and yield, by reacting compound II (R1,R2 = lower alkyl group) with sulfur and alkali earth metal hydroxides or oxides (e.g. NaOH) in water-immiscible solvent, extraction with water, and reaction with a benzyl halide (III; X = halogen atom, Y is given) to give I.
