Fruit is carried on a conveyor (10) for transfer to a conveyor (12) at a lower level. A deflector at the end of conveyor (10) guides the fruit to a flexible cylindrical member (16) which is rotated by a belt drive. The fruit is carried by member (16) through a downwardly converging chute (14) and is discharged on to conveyor (12). Member (12) may be a wheel with a circular brush or elastic material. The member may take its drive from one of the conveyors.
