Permitting limited lateral movement whilst transmitting heavy vertical loads between a superstructure and a substructure, the bearing incorporates co-planar pads of laminated steel and elastomer, in a two-piece reinforced concrete pad-housing which is utilised for precise level adjustment. The housing has top, and bottom pieces each precisely formed, and each having cavities accepting the upper and lower portions respectively of individual pads. All cavities provide truly plane pad-bearing faces, the lower cavities having nominally greater plan dimensions than the pads, and cavity depths approximating to one third pad height. Screws through encastre brackets connect the pieces, screw-jacks on the bottom piece providing for in situ level adjustment. Once the unit is positioned a cavity between the bottom and the substructure is filled with grout.
|
