The maize harvester has a pick-up (12) delivering the crop to a chopper drum (13), the latter being hinged and raised when the pick-up is lifted into its transport position. The chopper drum has an anchor point for one end of a cable (20), the latter passing over a pulley fixed to the pickup to be anchored at its other end to the body of the machine. The chopper can include a stirrup (24) engageable by a holding catch (25) when the pick-up is in its transport position. The catch can be disengaged by a Bowden cable operable from the operators cab of the machine.
