Measurement of carbon di:oxide content of blood - using rotating hemispherical vessel with cover having filters and windows to transmit light beam

The gas content of a liq. is determined by shining a beam of radiation through a rotating vessel. The liq. is placed in a cup, inside the vessel which is then rotated. The cover has two filters and two windows, the latter allowing a reflected beam to leave the vessel. The intensity of the reflected beam gives a measure of the gas concentration. The inner surface of the vessel is coated with NaHSO4. For measuring CO2 content, a radiation filter which only transmits 4.25 mu m wavelength is coupled with a reference filter of 3.75 mu m. Used for measuring the CO2 content of blood. Allows the amt. present in the blood to be rapidly driven out of the sample and its quantity measured.
