The gripping mechanism has a rotatably mounted centering sleeve positioned on one side of the magnetic recording disc or assigned to a central opening in the diskette (16). On the side of the diskette opposite the centring sleeve there is a spreader arrangement (20, 21) which is screwed axially on a driven shaft (19). A holding device inhibits the turning of the spreader arrangement during the gripping action. The spreader arrangement may consist of a spreading crown and a disc provided with a cental female thread on which the holding device engages.
