A"colony-stimulating factor", which is capable of stimulating activity of human bone marrow cells to proliferate and differentiate, thereby forming granulocytes, and is a glycoprotein isolated from human urine which glycoprotein has a molecular weight of from 75,000 to 90,000 dalton inclusive as determined by gel filtration. The isolation from human urine includes concentrating the urine with respect to proteins contained therein, removing impurity by adsorption on a cation exchanger, and further purifying by ion exchanging chromatography on anion exchanger, and gel filtrating chromatography with a highly cross-linked polymer gel. The glycoprotein is stable in the presence of a stabilizer such as albumin or urinary proteins, against heat-treatment for virus-inactivation and can be used as a leukopenia curative without fear of viral infection therefrom. |
