Support for a live rail of electrified rail tracks is mfd. by winding from glass-fibre-reinforced insulated strands and tapes. An annular insulator is made by the winding process, and is then divided to give two support points for the live rail. The insulator may be wound in one-piece or in a composite mould. The prod. is a 'bridge' reinforced by fibrous roving, with a profiled bar reinforced by fibrous tape. The insulating plastics impregnant matrix is an unsatd. polyester or an epoxy resin. The article, has a good mechanical-strength to weight ratio.
