The sulphation of a decapeptide intermediate is carried out in aqueous medium at pH from 8.5 to 12.5 by means of a complex B:SO3 in which B: is a tertiary organic base, whereby the decapeptide ceruletide of the formula H-Pyroglu-Gln-Asp-Tyr(SO3H)-Thr-Gly- Trp-Met-Asp-Phe-NH2 is produced.
