PURPOSE:To obtain a compact, lightweight lead-acid battery having good voltage performance at low cost by using an expanded grid in a plate and previously forming a current collecting lug in the plate as one body. CONSTITUTION:A positive plate 5 and a negative plate 6 use expanded grids. A positive current collecting lug 8 and a negative current collecting lug 9 are formed by punching rolled sheets so that each lug is united to the plate. Each current collecting lug is unnecessary to be connected to each plate and its end can easily be bent. The lugs 8, 9 are resistance-welded to a lead wall 4 to form electrical connection between cells. A cell connector is eliminated and electrical connection is made lightweight and also decreases voltage drop. Cell space can be reduced by the space occupied by the cell connector. |
