836,915. Aerating sewage &c. HARVEY, J. B. March 12, 1958 [April 26, 1957], No. 13382/57. Class 111. [Also in Group VI] Sewage and similar waste liquids are aerated by means of a device, Fig. 1, comprising an outer conduit 1, a first inner conduit 3 one end of which is situated within the outer conduit, and a second inner conduit 2 having an end closed by a foraminate member, e.g. a perforated hollow cone 4, the member projecting into the end of the conduit 2 so as to restrict the flow of sewage &c. from conduit 1 into conduit 3. Sewage flowing downwardly in the restricted space between 3 and 4 causes air to be drawn through tube 2 and perforations in cone 4, thereby becoming aerated. Turbulence in the aerated liquid is increased by curved fins 4a and 4b on the cone exterior. Fig. 3 shows the bottom of the device, sewage being pumped by line 9 into the channel between the inner and outer conduits whence it descends through conduit 3 to be deflected by a plate 10, the plate preventing deposition of solid matter. Also described and illustrated are an arrangement of such devices in parallel, and a conventional circular biological filter for the treatment of sewage, the device being incorporated in the filter.
|
