A hot melt cast, solidified base sheet material useful in the preparation of photoetched printing plates is disclosed. The material is tacky at room temperature, is photocurable into a soft resin and contains, on and adhered to the polymerizable surface thereof, a substantially continuous thin film such as of polyvinyl alcohol which is substantially tack free at room temperature.
