PURPOSE:To apply electrooptic ceramics to an optical bulb, an optical shutter, an optical memory, an image storage device, a display device or a deflector by using transparent special dielectric ceramics having electrooptic effects. CONSTITUTION:The same side of transparent ceramics 5 having the composition specified by Formula (wherein: A stands for an element of rare earth or V group; B stands for an element of I to III groups; and x = 0.04 to 0.15 = a + b; a not equal to 0; b not equal to 0) is evaporated with Al electrodes 4 at a spacing of 0.5 mm. The ceramics 5 thus prepared is interposed between polarizing elements 3 and 6, which are arranged at a nicol of right angle, and a DC voltage of 600 V is fed to the electrodes 4 from a pulse signal generator 8. The laser beam 2 from a He-Ne laser 1 is allowed to pass more than 90 % upon application of a voltage and is received by a transistor 7 so that it is displayed in an oscilloscope 9 with a memory. When the voltage to be applied is cut, the transmission factor is reduced to a level lower than 10 % within several micro seconds. |
